An important fashion icon once said that “fashion comes and go but style is timeless. When you are keeping up with the ever-changing fashion, you can possibly have attended something between enormous fun and the biggest headache imaginable. The alternative however is to opt for the kind of timeless style and fashion that are just as revered today as they were decades ago and will continue to be for decades more.

 

Think about it – icons like Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn didn’t make history by being flavours of the month, but rather by knowing what it meant to be timelessly stylish and elegant without being a fashion-victim. 

So, rather than bore you with another list of the top 10 trends to follow in 2013 and beyond, here are five of the most crucial and timeless style tips that go far beyond this, the next or any season.

Hourglass Figures

Most would agree that the most stunningly attractive and jaw-droppingly sexy women of the past and the present are those with incredibly curves and hourglass figures. Marilyn Monroe was of course the dictionary definition of the hourglass frame and even this far into the 21^st century, women in their millions looking for ways and means to recreate her iconic figure. Hourglass shapes suit all women of all sizes, but sadly we’re not all blessed with the genes we’d like, so try to opt for clothes that dip inwards toward the waist – or go one step further in faking it with a belt. 

Little Black Dresses

The little black dress has been a wardrobe staple of every fashion-conscious woman in the world for decades, ever since Audrey Hepburn donned her iconic Givenchy dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Their beauty is in their simplicity and also the fact that you can pick one up for next to nothing, so there’s no excuse not for having at least one to fall back on. These are the kinds of casual party dresses that define versatility and elegance and chances are when you’re reading an equivalent blog in 50 years’ time, nothing will be changed…not a thing. 

Imperfect is Perfect

Trying to make your look quite literally perfect from head to toe is no only impossible, but also pointless. First and foremost, perfect is boring and just screams a person that is trying too hard. By contrast, an imperfect look is exponentially more stylish by not only looking more like you are naturally stylish in every way but also by the way you don’t need to try…even if you do. So whether it’s the odd tear here and there, mismatched socks or a hat that looks like you found it in the garbage, never forget that imperfect is closer to perfection than perfect. 

Celebrate Flaws

And in the same vein as the above, a world of flawless bodies with clear skin and zero imperfections would be a homogenised world of skull-crushing boredom. Thing of Madonna’s teeth, Cindy Crawford’s Mole and Cher’s nose and be proud of your flaws – they’re what make us fabulous human beings!

Big Sunglasses

Last but not least, watch a few movies from the last half century or so and it should become pretty clear that big sunglasses never, ever went out of style and never will. Why? Because there is nothing better in the world to cover so many sins! Too little sleep, too lazy to put makeup on, crying over spilt milk and so on – dark shades not only keep your secrets your own, but make you look like a star in the process! Always have, always will!
