{Guest Post} Nautical: Get The Look

Are you a fan of the sandy seaside, listening to the ocean through a shell, smelling the salty fresh air and relaxing under the blue skies? Well I am and all of those things take me racing back to my childhood and to the feeling of being home and comfortable.

The nautical look is all about recapturing your memories and redirecting them into your home décor. So if your home needs a little bit of a face liftor just some budget sprucing this is the look for you and it is so easy to achieve too.

Back to nautical basics
If you want to create a nautical theme be it in your bedroom, bathroom or even your kitchen, accessories and attention to detail are major key factors. Always ask yourself what are the key components?

I automatically think sea shells, white rope, yellow sand, blue colouring, and of course the classic anchor logo. The great thing about interior design is that you can find inspiration and ideas anywhere and everywhere.

Spreading the nautical look
After doing a bit of research (mainly on Pinterest) you should be more aware of what particular elements and accessories you like when it comes to the nautical theme.

Now it’s time to decide on where you want to add your new found theme. The bathroom, living area or the bedroom tend to be the most popular options for this bright and breezy design.

Make your own nautical accessory
As soon as you decide on which room you want to transform the rest becomes child’s play, have fun and by all means experiment with what you want and like.

Get wallpaper and paint testers, apply colour samples and make your own accessories. A popular and inexpensive nautical creation is a shell vase display (pictured below) I mean how simple yet effective is that and it only costs buttons to create (not actual buttons).
