This month, I've been reading through the story of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. I love the Austen period of lavish dances and gatherings, not to mention the factors of what it means to be a lady. My favorite storyline has been Pride and Prejudice for a long time. So, I thought it was high time for me to read along with the other characters, to see their view on the world. After that, I have a heap of classics to dive into...Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse, The Child From the Sea by Elizabeth Goudge and I would really love to sink my teeth into a Tolkein novel. I've never read the Lord of the Rings! *gasp* Most of my book loving friends find that hard to believe. Then, I'm always up for a good mystery or suspense novel and my favorite Lemony Snicket books (I'm finally nearing the end of the series!).
And since I've been a little under the weather, I'm certain that today will be filled with hot tea, old books and maybe some I Love Lucy Reruns. And Josh even bought me a bag of chocolate covered pretzels...he's so good to me!
My only other "bookish" goal for the year would be to find a quaint little book club that focus on hard back classic novels to delve into together.
What have you been reading? Or better yet, what's on your 'to read' list?

I love Austen! And Wodehouse...oh he never fails to lift my spirits -- his humor is timeless!
Oooh! Wodehouse, is great, such a good person to read on a snowy day. Your plans for today sound lovely! enjoy!
I worked for a veterinarian before kids, and he was a huge Wodehouse fan! I read many of his books on slow days at the clinic, they are such classic humor!
Love this photo in black and white, it accentuates the perfect symmetry even more! Beautiful.

Are you watching Downton Abbey?
Fondly,
Glenda
^I have not, but several people have recommended it to me. I guess I need to check it out! :)
I have not read Wodehouse! I LOVE being in a book club that reads the classics. Our next meeting will be after baby, CRAZY! I watched that Austin book club movie and was a bit disappointed.
I have never read Austen - how awful!! I am going to have to put that on my to do list!
Well, I don't yet have all my books planned this year as far as what I want to read.... :) But, I always have books on my "to-read" list and a couple this year would include The Notebook and the sequel, which I think is called The Wedding. I also want to finish the Ada's House series I'm in the middle of by Woodsmall, very good so far for Amish Christian fiction! Thanks for the recommend!
I watched my movie version of Charles Dickens' Nicholas Nickelby yesterday while I was reading a more technical (slightly more dry also! lol) textbook for graduate homework....and I liked it very much! I have owned the film for years and never had gotten to finish it that I recalled, anyhow! Or else I simply forgot how it went. hahaha It's the one with Anne Hathaway in it. Thought of you as I know you're a Dickens fan, so you should check it out! :) Have a great day! (Love the pic, btw!)
^Rachel, I watched a version of Nicholas Nicholby years ago, but I need to watch it again. I'm also wanting to see David Copperfield. :)
I ended up trading "The Child From The Sea" for "Pilgrim's Inn" which has been delightful so far.
If you haven't already read them, be sure not to miss Elizabeth Goudge's "The Elliot Trilogy." I consider them to be her best. They are,( to be read in order): "The Bird in The Tree", "Pilgrim's Inn",and "The Heart of the Family."
Other of her novels that I especially like are: "Gentian Hill" and " The Rosemary Tree". I have slowly accumulated hardcover copies of my favorites.
The are becoming increasingly expensive, so I'm glad that I have found most of my favorites in hardcover before they are priced out of my range.
Happy reading....
