With the crisp, cool, mornings finally here, I find myself head over heels for all things related to fall. I love this time of year. I love big mugs of warm concoctions, be it hot chocolate or apple cider...it all makes me feel giddy with anticipation about what lies ahead. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Sweaters, hoodies, boots, the color of the leaves, hay rides, and bon fires. And pumpkin. Gotta have my pumpkin.
I love everything to do with Pumpkin. Pumpkin pie, cake, cookies, bars, cheesecake. A staple dessert at my parents home was Pumkin Pie Cake- delicious blend of both pie and cake with a superb pumpkin heartiness that was sure to warm your soul. Josh and I both love the pumkin spice lattes at Starbucks and the pumpkin bread.
So, when I came across the "Starbucks Pumpkin Bread Clone Recipe" I was thrilled to pieces. I bought the ingredients and headed home to bake the night away. The bread came out gorgeous...simply gorgeous. And that says alot, most breads that I've made in the past were less than pretty: Crumbly, soggy, and falling apart. But once I sunk my teeth into my so called Starbucks Clone Recipe, I was disappointed. It tasted like nothing more than a heavy bread with Cinnamon. The cozy pumpkin flavor was lost somewhere along the way. After two bites, I had enough.
So I set about creating my own recipe. It turned out lovely. A fairly sweet bread, with a wholesome pumpkin flavor, that is sure to celebrate the joys of autumn with you...
Pumpkin Bread
1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup butter (melted)
1 can of solid pack pumpkin (approx. 15 oz.)
2 large eggs
2 cups sugar **
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Heat oven to 350. Combine dry ingredients and set aside. Mix egg, pumpkin, butter, sugar. Add remaining ingredients. Mix until well corporated. Cook 35-50 minutes or bread is set in the middle.
**The recipe originally called for 1 1/2 cups of sugar, but added more, since I prefer a sweeter flavored bread.
So today, with my slice of pumpkin bread and a glass of Iced Chai, I enjoyed a quiet afternoon of reading (book review coming soon!). A nice ending to a wonderful holiday weekend. :)
How was your Labor Day?
Love,
Mrs. Southern Bride

I fell in love with making pumpkin bread last fall...I think I will again this year ;)
As for Labor Day, it was very low-key. I just got back from a trip out West, so I slept away half the day and caught up on blogs the other half ;)
You know I am going to have to try this! I LOVE anything with pumpkin too! :) In fact, I just bought my first pumpkin for the season at Whole Foods the other day, and I can't wait to make a whole bunch of pumpkin recipes! Mmmm... I love Fall! :)
Oh i am so copying this recipe!! this fall has to taste like pumpkin! i just hope I'll find some decent ones here in the land of beer and wurst:P
Happy Belated Labor Day!Oh and you may want to stop by and check the randomness going on!:)
This sounds and looks scrumptious. I am printing it for my recipe file.
My Labor day weekend was FABULOUS, as I also celebrated my birthday, ate at my favorite restaurant, saw a great live show, and enjoyed a visit from all my children and my mother. I'm trying to put the whole weekend in one blog post, but it's beginning to look like a mini-novel!
YUM! I love pumpkin bread! I must try this!
Ok. I love you and I love your recipes!! You're going to make me eat my way out of kitchen woman! :)

Love me some pumpkin bread!!! : )
Yum. That sounds so delicious. Please send me some.
Fall is my favorite season. It's not the same anymore, though, since I moved out of the midwest. Just can't get that crisp-on-the-verge of chill feeling in the air. I saw that Starbucks had their Pumpkin Spice Lattes last week and gave a silent cheer. I love them.
:::visits from SITS:::
I love baked pumpkin goods too! It must have been so disappointing when the first try didn't turn out well. This recipe looks like the perfect accompaniment for our apple picking trip in two weeks!
There is NOTHING quite so good as a slice of yummy pumpkin bread!

Hi, I've never tried it, but always up for giving any recipe a go.

This looks yummy! I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie, but really like pumpkin bread. Kind of strange, I know.
Yummmmm....that recipe sounds super good! And your pictures are amazing!
Yum, your pumpkin bread looks de-lish! I made some pumpkin bread last fall, but it wasn't that great... too much nutmeg and wheat flour was no good. I'll definitely be trying your recipe out. Thanks for stopping by and giving my blog some love :)
Maybe I'm crazy but I done like pumpkin flavored food or drink BUT I love the scent of pumpkin candles! I'm going to buy some tonight!! ;)
I heart fall!!
I just had a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks this morning! It was the perfect start to my morning! I grew up in Circleville,OH...home of the world's largest Pumpkin festival. I LOVE all things pumpkin! Can't wait to try this recipe!
I love fall too! This time of year just puts me in a good mood! Can't wait to try out your recipe.
Yum! I'm not a fan of baking, but pumpkin bread would be the top of my list if I did!
I may have to try this recipe!
Oh and PS: Your husband reminds me of Josh Groban--just an fyi. :-)
I love pumpkin bread. It sounds delicious!!
I love fall, too. October to December is my favorite time of the year.
*sigh*
I'm in love with Fall, Pumpkin Lattes' from Starbucks, Hoodies, and all that loveliness!
Thanks for sharing the bread recipe; it looks wonderful! Perfect for a crisp fall night with my hubby!
I had always known pumpkin to be a savoury treat (ie. roasted pumpkin with the roast beef dinner) but my Canadian hubby introduced me to pumpkin pie. Owh my is it good.
Ever since I've always been jealous of Starbucks in America because the coffee flavours there are so adventurous. Cinnamon dolce is about as fancy as it gets here in oz.
OMG - this sounds amazing. I am drooling! I want some now!! : )
Thanks! I love pumpkiny sweets! BTW- my sis-in-law makes delicious muffins and she told me they have only two ingredients- boxed spice or carrot cake mix, and a can of pumpkin! Not a gourmet recipe, but they really are good and you can't beat the ease.
Thanks for stopping by!
Oh yum! Fall is coming, and pumpkin bread sounds wonderful!
I think I'm Starbucks' pumpkin breads biggest fan. I think I love you for posting this. Will most def. give this a try!
Visiting from SITS!
This sounds heavenly! I can't wait to try it. I just made banana bread this past weekend, and I got all the giddy, butterfly feelings of fall! Love this time of the year!!
Stopping by from SITS! You've got a new follower!! ;)
It sounds too good to be true : ) Yum!
Hi. Stopping by from SITS. Cute blog.
MMMMMMMMMM...this sounds delicious!! Thanks for sharing your recipe. I too love pumpkin!
Thanks for the recipe... it looks absolutely delicious!! I will have to try it... especially as it's getting properly autumnal here now :(
Egypt was completely fantastic... I'll post about it soon, when I've caught up a little from being away!
Saskia x
I have to try this! I'm also in LOVE with anything pumpkin-flavored. Looks so yummy!
I made SUPER TASTY Eggless Pumpkin Cinnamon Chip Cookies and they were so good. I truly loved them. I ate waaaaaay too many. Have you tried a Pumpkin Spice White Mocha at Starbucks? If you get a grande I'd try two pumps of each!
I love almost everything pumpkin, so I'm excited for the recipe. The only thing I don't really do is pie. It's a texture thing! You sound like someone I'd love to hang out with, between pumpkin bread and chi tea, we're a perfect match!
Love your pictures, really great images bringing flowers and everything else to life online!
I'm so happy you tweaked the clone recipe! I just followed that also and my husband and I just had our first slices, and we're so disappointed! You're right that the pumpkin flavor is completely absent, stop I'm excited to try your recipe in hopes of getting a true pumpkin bread!
Just made this last night! It was amazing! I will only be using this recipe for pumpkin bread! Thank you!!
Made this recipe after making the Starbucks Clone recipe. I agree that the "clone" was completely tasteless. No way is it Starbucks' "secret" recipe! This one is much much better. I added 1/2 tsp. ground cloves, and heaped the cinnamon & nutmeg portions. However, it took almost 60 min. to bake. I used my convection oven (but set it at 375 so I would get the 350 degrees the recipe called for).
I made this recipe earlier this week and it turned out fantastic. My husband and daughter both loved it. It's a new fall favorite!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! After reading it, I realized I had some pumpkin filling I needed to use up so I made it the that same night. When my hubby came in the door from work (he gets home well after the supper hour) he smelled the bread and we had to have some right away with a cup of coffee while sitting by a campfire. It was awesome! We both loved it!
Glad so many of you are enjoying the bread! :)
D. -- I should have mentioned that altitudes and weather conditions will probably effect the baking times. Didn't think of that until I saw your comment!
To keep the sugar content down I like to reduce the amount in the recipe but sprinkle the top of the loaf before baking with a nice coat of sugar and pumpkin seeds.
Just made a two breads... if the scent that is filling the kitchen is any indication of the taste, these are going to be fantastic. I have tons of fresh pumpkin puree from the many pumpkins we had around the house at halloween and was worried that I would not use it all. This recipe will solve that dilemna!
