First Date!

With the countdown now in the TEENS, I've been on the walk down memory lane. All the firsts...especially our "first" date. It can be easily argued that our first date was actually months before we even started "dating". Josh and I were together all the time...we hung out at Taco Bell & Starbucks like it was our second home. We always found excuses to play guitar together pretty much every night. He often ventured to Wally world with me, or just came over to chill out together. Or maybe the night we borrowed my parents convertible...just the two of us... Maybe one of these days I'll get around to sharing "our story"... :)

But I digress. Over the weekend, I made a comment to Josh that I knew he was the "one" by our first date. Why you ask? Because I was convinced that I did NOT want a traditional "first date" of a dinner & movie. I hoped that the first date would have more thought and meaning behind it. Don't get me wrong, I love going out for dinner and a movie, those are some fun date nights, I just didn't want it for the first date.

When he picked me up that night, I was beside myself with excitement...I honestly couldn't believe that we were officially a couple! He took me to Olive Garden (a favorite!), then on to Starbucks and Barnes & Noble. While at Barnes and Noble, we browsed travel books for hours. Literally. I think we were probably there for 2 or more hours pouring over book after book of France, Italy, England, Ireland, and so forth. Later he told me he was already getting travel ideas for the two of us...He's sneaky, that one. Can someone say "honeymoon"? Haha.

On our way home that night, it was pouring. I mean pouring cats and dogs. The drive took a tad longer than normal. After we finally made it home, we decided to curl up on the porch and chat away the last few hours of the evening. It was perfect. It was so us.

There are some days when I wish I could just be a fly on the wall that night. What did we talk about exactly? What did we order? Is there a way to preserve all those feelings floating through your entire being, as you finally can express your love for the other person? I wish...

All in all, the first date, was just the beginning of our adventurous dating journey together. And it was exactly what I'd always dreamed of!

What about you? What was your first date like?

This is a sweet story. I like that your first date wasn't just "the typical."

My hubby and I didn't have our first date until we were already "official" either!

That is such a sweet first date!

We went out to dinner on our first date. When also went back to that same restaurant the night he proposed to me. I knew I was going to marry him before we even had our first date (we were really good friends....don't worry I wasn't a stalker or anything).

Thanks for the comment! It lead me to your marvelous blogs!

Our first official date was Chinese food at the mall. Poor Paulie. I really laid down the law. I let him know exactly what I wanted out of life, exactly what I needed from a man and that I took my relationships seriously. I told him that I didn't want him calling me for a second date if he wasn't ready to settle down. Looking back, I'm surprised he actually came back for more and eventually married me.

Something about us headstrong, southern women that the boys just can't get enough, I guess.

I LOVE Little Rock, by the way. I was born there and still have a lot of family there. I miss it terribly.

Husband and I worked together in college. I had a HUGE crush on him - he was a bartender and I was a server. One night we were talking and discovered we were both runners, so we made plans to run together that weekend at a local wildlife park...except that I was NOT a runner. I don't know what possessed me to say that I was - it was going to come out sooner or later! But I put on my cutest workout clothes and threw caution to the wind...that was nine years ago :-)

Hey! I found your blog via SITS. Love your story! Mine's similar, actually.

Short version: We met at church one Sunday, two weeks before Christmas 2007. That Thursday, we went caroling with a group of friends, and then on to Starbucks afterwards, just the two of us. We talked for hours, until the tired Starbucks employees kicked us out at closing time. The entire evening was so natural, so easy. I didn't feel like I had to "try" at all. I remember thinking to myself, "I could marry this guy." ...And, less than eight months later, I did! :)

Ha ha - I took my little sister, just to take the edge off, and make it not "officially" a date. Is that ridiculous or WHAT?!

We made plans to go hiking at Pinnacle, but we decided to cancel them because it was raining. The weather ended up clearing up, so we met at his house and went for a walk. He lives close to the edge of town, so we ended up walking until we ran out of road, and then we went exploring in the woods for awhile and found a pond. It was so fun because we just enjoyed the summer evening and talked the night away. We had known each other and been friends for awhile so it was really comfortable and we were both so excited. We ended the night with some drinks from Sonic and a drive through town with the windows down.

We reminisce ALL the time about those "early days." I know what you mean about wondering if you'll be able to hold onto those feelings forever. I hope so!

our first date was very similar I needed a birthday gift for my nephew so we went Barnes and Noble and wound up walking around for 2 hours discussing our likes and dislikes special songs to us, off the wall things we both liked. I knew he was the one when he knew of a musical that I had loved for a long time. Glad to know we're not the only ones who do this.
